With its 5,434 MASL (17,783 feet), Cerro El Plomo is the tallest peak visible from Santiago, Chile on clear days, as well as from the entire central valley of the Chilean Andes. This characteristic, as well as its imposing figure, is most likely the reason why El Plomo was chosen as Apu or guardian by the Incas. The most important sacred ceremony in Inca culture, the capac cocha, was celebrated on its summit, which is covered by glaciers that supply the entire central valley of Mapocho with water. On this expedition, we will walk in the footsteps of the Incas, with the objective to reach the peak of this majestic, sacred mountain.
